When is it all over ?

Script Analysis

1.Our short film starts of a dramatic moment in the middle of the film by showing us a "emotionally bruised man" getting ready to end it all, after his life has not been going the way he wanted.
2. The opening scene will show a frustrated man inside of his car attempting to end his life, closing scene will show him walking of with a gas tank.
3. Characters attitude will be depressed, emotionally hurt, suicidal. The character will placed in a difficult position because he is not sure on wether he should kill himself.
4. The character is not revealed right away, the audience only sees his face partially, the only part the audience sees of the characters face is a close up of a tear, later on the audience sees his complete face. Actions reveal to the audience the weak positon the character is in.
5. Showing short flashbacks of what my characters life used to be, and how it effected the decision he is willing to take at the moment.
6. To reduce things to a minimum, our film well be keep short and simple, the actions taken by the character will be quick, and the paste of the film will also be quick to ensure a film that is short, simple, and to the point.

TITLE: When is it all over?
GENRE: Film noire
LOG LINE: A suicidal man attempts to end it all one morning but it does not all work out as planned.
Driving along side the coast, trees whizzing by as the sunsets. An empty road, a car appears and stops in the frame on the side of the road. Moments pass, everything is still and silent. An emotionally bruised man grips the steering wheel with frustration adding to the subtle suspense of the scene. It’s so quiet one can’t almost hear his heart beat. A close up on his eyes shows us his vulnerability as a tear is shed and he wipes it off with his hand.
The audience still hasn’t seen his full face.
A shot from the back seat of the car captures his head and the sun setting. A slow pan to a picture on the dashboard of the character and his girlfriend, the picture ripped between each other’s face where his identity is revealed for the first time, “Tom and Kelly forever”. A sign of hopelessness fills his eyes. He starts to space out remembering short flashbacks of her smiling face and them two having fun together. A second tear find its way down his cheek.
He steps out of the car and looks out into the distance with a miserable look on his face. One thinks, “Is he going to kill himself?”
He goes into the trunk if his car where he finds a hose and a rag. He pauses for a second, rethinking his decisions. As a third tear falls to the ground, he stuffs the exhaust with the hose and the rag and puts the other end of the hose through a small opening in his window. Before starting his car, he attempts to write a suicide note but the only pen he has doesn’t work adding to his suicidal tendencies.
Takes a breath.
Silence
He starts the car. A few seconds later, it suddenly stops. Gas meter reads EMPTY.
The character walks down the street with a tank in his hand as the screen fades to black.

Presentation- Reflection

1) I think that are strong points in our presentation, was our choice of images,our reaserch question, and our connections to film noir. Because we all chose goood examples such as the last scene in chinatown and other symbolic images that gaves us a veriety of things to talk about. Also our reasearch question was well developed to the point that, our presentation clearly answered our guiding question and supported it with good evidence. I think we did a good job connecting to film noir because, in our presentation all of us connected back to film noir. our use of terms was also a strong point in our presentation because, we used terms corectly, and said why these terms connect back to film noir.
2) I think that I need improvement in the way I presented my information. Because at a point in my prsentation, I got confused in the things i was going to mention about my slides. I think that if i would have memorized my presentation more i would have talked about my slide more smoothly.
3) I think that chinatown is a good example of a Film Noir film, because alot of characteristics that are involved with film noir are seen through out chinatown, such as low key lighting, the ideal of betrayel, and the use of shadows, setting ect. The reason why chinatown can be considered as a film noir film.

Chinatown- Story Analysis

Chinatown is told with and with no narration, because the story told in some parts by Jake Gitties. Mr. Gitties is the protagonist of the film. The spectators see Mr. Gitties as the hero of this film, because he is percieved as the the good guy, even though in some parts of the film he is clearly not as good guy. For example when Mr. Gitties is slapping Ms.Mulwray in one of the scenes, one sees that Mr.Gitties is not always the nice guy that the audience portrays him to be in this film. the audience provides mystery in the film because, one does not know exactly what is going on in the beggining of the film, bcause it is mysterious to us. The story is some what chronologically, because the events happen right after each other, but in some parst of the film theres are references to events that happened in the past, such as Ms. Mulwray's rape. The genre of this is film is noir, because as the film develops, one sees characteristics of film noir such as low key lighting, the use of a femme fatale, and settings that are closely tied to film noir. This film shows corruption at the time, because corruption is being represented through Mr.Cross, because he own the entire Los Angeles police department, thus showing how at the time corruption was happening through various parts of the country. The Narrative shows a dark side of humans because, one may not notice it but nostly every human has a dark side because one is only interested in their own needs rather then others, which can be shown through Mr.Cross's evil plan, with the water supply in LA. Another human trait that is embody in the naration of this film is humans interest in mysteries, because if something does not make sence to us, one tends to figure out the meaning of something, which he shown through Mr.Gitties.

For The Birds

"For The Birds" has no narrator, the story tells itself. Instead the way the film plays out narrates the story because as the film goes on one sees and understands whats is going on, with out having a narrator tell the story.
The spectators supply the meaning of what is being presented in this film, because the spectators know that the blue bird is being look down on by the little small birds at the start of the film.
Information that we provide to understand the film is, we know the whats going on in the film even though theres no narrator to guide us through . Other information that we provide is our understanding of the situation that is at hand .
The story is realist because everything happens in a chronological order during the same time period. The story is not arranged in any particular way, it is very "straight forward".
This short film with out a doubt is a comedy. Because just the thought of the film being a animation gives it a comical appearance. The plot supports the comical genre of this film because it is amusing to see the situation the small birds are put in. Also the irony involved with this film makes it even more amusing to watch.
In this film the small birds represent a ungenerous human trait because when the birds saw the big blue bird he was being outcasted from the rest of the group. The big blue bird represents a curious human trait because even though the blue bird did not physically fit in with the small little birds he was curious to go see what the small birds were doing.
